About 30 minutes after the water comes to a boil, start testing for doneness with a fork - should pierce easily but not be splitting!.

for potato salad, I like boiling them whole as it makes a difference in the texture of the finished salad!. When you boil them without the skin, they absorb the mayo and other stuff differently!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a former chef and what I would do, is peel or not peel them, cut them the same size, bring them to a boil in a pot of lightly salted water, let them boil for 5 minutes and then shut of the heat and let them sit for 10 minutes drain and let them cool whlie you prepare your other ingredients, and to save time drop a couple of egg in when they boil, this will cook them and you can use them when you finish the salad!.

Peel the egg once you drain the potatos, the important thing is they not boil to long the residual heat from the water in the last 10 minutes will do the trick, I do this all the time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

depending on the size you cut them to about 5 -15 minutes!. I would then drain them and refresh them in cold water until completely cold then drain and put in the refrigerator!. If you put anything hot in the fridge it's internal temperature goes up and can cause food spoilage in extreme casesWww@FoodAQ@Com

If you dice them prior to cooking, they will cook more evenly!. And faster!.!.!.!.I check after 5 min!. then keep checking!. Check with a toothpick and remove from water before very soft, they continue cooking until they are chilled!. I usually drain, place in refrigerator while I chop other ingredients, then mix!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Boil the pototatoes until they are just tender to the fork or knife when you stick it in!. Then take it off the heat and strain!. Run under cold water to stop the cooking process!. They are good to go!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The smaller the chunks, the less time they take to cook!. I usually dont time it, i just check the tenderness by poking a fork through!. Good Luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Until just tender and can be pierced with a skewer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
