I freeze dinners, meats etc so I can have them and use them when needed, but can you do the same with fruit and veg!? If yes, what storage methods would you use for them!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Yes you can!. I have done it lots of times!. When you do that you need to goet it out before you use it!. So that it is not frozen when
you want to use it!. I use Freezer Guard bags you can get from Woolworths(that is if you are in Australia)!. I have also picked Blueberries, and have then froozen them!. I take some out every now and then!. I also use them for Smoothies or Ice-cream!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Good heavens yes!. Where do you think the frozen veg and fruit in stores comes from!? All you do with veg is blanch it in the following manner!.
set a kettle of water to boil!. Have a bowl of kettle of ice water near by!. When the water is boiling, drop in your cleaned and cut up vegetables!. Not too many at one time, maybe 2-3 cups full!. the water will stop boiling!. wait till it boils again and is a good rolling boil!. Remove from heat!. dip veg out of water and drop into ice water to 'shock them and stop the cooking process!.
With most fruits, you just cut up and freeze!. You can add sugar if you know you will be using them for pies but you don't have to!. If you spread them out on a cookie sheet and freeze them that way, then you can bag them up later and they will be easier to get apart!. A good cooking section of a book store should have a book on preserving foods!. I would get one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well I suppose you can, otherwise you wouldnt be able to buy frozen vegetables or fruits from the supermarket, right!?
I just use those heavy freezer ziplock baggies!.!. and put the amount i want in them, and press out the top air before i lock them!.!.
I always freeze fruit just when they are too soft to eat, but too good to throw!.!. then i use them in pies, baking, or making smoothies later!.!.
vegetables I freez all the time!.!. anything from tomatoes, brocolli!.!. one time i got a deal on bell peppers, i had a ton, so i sliced them and put maybe a pound or two into the freezer!.!. was so easy to take out a handful when cooking etc!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Kitty you can freeze most vegetables by just preparing them as if you were going to cook them!. Bring a large pot of water to a boil add the veggies!.and let them stay in water for 3 minutes dip them out with a slotted spoon or a strainer and place them in cold water!. Ice water is best but you can change the water to cool them down, the quicker the better!.Remove as much water as possible, place in zip lock bags serving size, gently press out air seal and store!.
I find it best to make the package as flat as possible leave one corner of bag slightly open while pressing air out!. A flat package can be stored much easier!.Bell peppers and onions we do not blanch!.Whole tomatoes we scald to peal then place in bags, Whole unpealed tomatoes we just wash dry and place in bags, when ready to use them place in hot water for a minute
and they will peal just like a scalded tomato!.
They work good in soups, stews and sauces!.Berries need no blanching, apples
need to be blanched peaches need to be mixed with a little sugar and an antioxant whitch you can buy at your local supper market in the canning section!.
I hope this helps you!. jim bWww@FoodAQ@Com

I prefer to use frozen fruit and veg from the store, as they are taken from the fields and processed immediately; many brands have their own processing plants on site! When they are frozen right out of the fields, it keeps more of the nutrients intact, making them even better than fresh a lot of times, as fresh travel far and are stored often a long time!.Having said this, I do freeze my own sometimes to keep from having waste!. I use plastic freezer storage bags or containers!. Mostly, you just wash and dry the veg or fruit and then the best way is to lay it in one layer on a baking sheet and freeze!. Then place in the preferred storage container!. I don't like to use foil, as it sometimes oxidizes and makes holes, leaving freezer burn!.I love to use my freezer, because I can lay in a whole bunch of meals for lunch and I've made them!????Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes you can, but it's better to use a vaccum sealer if you do it!. You can buy them at Bed Bath and Beyond or Walgreens if you want a cheap one!. Believe me it works!. I too freeze dinners and all that!. Make sure that after you cook the vegetables that they are cooled!. Otherwise you will get ice crystals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It would be far cheaper and more convenient to buy them pre-frozen!. If you buy the fresh ones you pay for the fact the supermarket has to take more care of them, deliver them quickly and they have a lot of wastage!.

But if you are talking about wastes, I imagine you could!. I would pre-chop some of them though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
