Question: Using melted chocolate as cake decoration!?
I'm making a cake this weekend and what I'm planning on doing is melting white chocolate, using food coloring (I'm thinking red) and then using a pastry bag to decorate and/or write on the cake!. I've never done this before so I'm wondering!.!.!.will the heat of the melted chocolate cause the frosting to get melty as well!? Has anyone done this before!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It depends on what type of food coloring you use!. If you use powdered food coloring, it should work!. If you use liquid food coloring, it could cause your chocolate to seize and turn clumpy!. With chocolate, any water that gets into it will make it clump and seize!. I have heard there is a special coloring sold at some craft stores!. As far as the melting of the icing, it shouldn't be a problem!. Just make sure your careful!. White chocolate will burn very easily if your not careful!. Melt it just enough for it to flow and all the chips or pieces are melted!. also, white chocolate is hard to get the right consistancy!. Play with it on a practice piece of cloth to see if it works for you!. I'd check Michael's for their colorings!. Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Chocolate melts at a very low temperature!. Think about a candy bar, it will melt in your hand!. You can write on your frosted cake with chocolate!. You should not have any problem with the chocolate messing up the frosting!. It will be cooled before it could 'heat' up the frosting!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

why dont you just pipe on red frosting!.!.!.but if you really want to use the chocolate it will probably melt the icing just a bit, but wont be that big of a problem unless your decorating the sides!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

USE A DOUBLE BOILER FOR MELTING THE CHOCOLATE!.
THEN ADD YOUR COLOR TO THE RIGHT COLOR YOU WANT!. DARK OR LIGHT!. SHOULD NOT MELT THE ICING TOO MUCH!. YOU CAN PUT THE CAKE IN THE FREEZER FOR A LITTLE WHILE BEFOREHAND!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
