Just out of curiosity: how does an egg boil?!
To have a hard boiled egg, you boil it for how long!? And does it need to cool to harden completely!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
cover eggs with water and bring to a rapid boil then remove the pot from heat; cover and let sit for 15 minutes!. Drain the eggs and dump them in cold (even ice cold) water (that keeps the yolk from getting green)!. Then crack and enjoy!Www@FoodAQ@Com
The two previous Answerers are right: cover your eggs---whatever quantity---with cold water, straight from the tap!. Bring the water to a rolling boil, then cover the pan tightly and remove it from the heat!. It's actually best to remove it from the stove entirely---I put mine on a fabric pot holder or a trivet on the countertop!. also, I let my eggs hang out in the water for 18 minutes!.
Two other helpful things: first, try to use the LEAST fresh eggs you have on hand!. Eggs that have been in the fridge for a couple of weeks will make much better hard-boiled eggs!. The air "cell" inside the eggs gets larger over time, and the eggs will be much easier to peel!.
Second, to cool your eggs, run cold water over them for maybe 2 minutes!. You just want to make them cool enough to handle, and you also want to cool the pan itself!. Then, dump a whole tray of ice cubes into the pan, and fill it with water!. After about 10 minutes in the ice bath, the eggs will be cool enough to peel easily (or to store for later use)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What your looking for in a perfectly hard boiled egg is a soft rubber like egg white that is not chewy, and a yolk that has barely finished solidifying, and is not dry at all!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
For the best hard boiled egg, place cool eggs in pan of cool water!. Bring to a boil!. Cover pan and remove from heat!. In 10-15 minutes you will have great hard boiled egg!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
