How do you become a wedding cake designer?!

Question: How do you become a wedding cake designer!?
I have a dream of opening a chic store that sells only wedding cakes!. I've played around with fondant, icing, etc!. and have made some pretty creations!. I would like to take it to the next level and I see many of the best designers have something referred to as their Master's in Cake Design (or something worded similarly)!.

I know there are many private institutions that have pastry, baking, bread, etc!. courses, but I'm wondering, what is the quicket, least inexpensive route to take to learn this art!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
The quickest, cheapest route would either be to get a job at a bakery and learn it there, or, go to a community college with a culinary program!. The problem with the community college is they'll just cover the basics of cake design/decoration!. You may want to go to a culinary school that specializes in this!. However it will cost you lots of $$!.

also, consider getting ACF Certification in baking!. The good culinary schools are ACF (American Culinary Federation) accredited!. When you graduate, you get automatic certification either as a cook or pastry chef!. This will be the basic certification levels!. There are higher levels one can obtain through the ACF!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Wilton is a great cake decorating brand!.

You could take classes at a Michael's store (http://www!.michaels!.com/art/online/stati!.!.!. or you could even go to the Wilton school in Darien, Illinois (http://www!.wilton!.com/classes/index!.cfm) which would surely give you an established name in the business!.

After you took courses, you'd probably want to rent a store with baking equipment and get a permit to bake & sell professional cakes!.

There are also magazines, etc!. with cake decorating ideas at http://www!.americancakedecorating!.com/!.

Hope this helps! :o)Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can try to apprentice for somebody!.!.!.

You dont get paid (usually) but you help and are there all the time learning by experience and watching others!.

If there is a local area that does it!.!.

Or like mentioned try a bakery and get a job doing just cakes and such and work your way up!. Experience is key!.

Culinary classes are great too, community colleges or institutes!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
