Question: Ideas for dish to take to a cook-out!?
I am so tired of the usual dishes I make to take to a cook-out!. Last week-end, at a small gathering, there were FIVE pasta salads, all pretty much the same!. I'd love ideas for a different salad or dish to take (cold dishes only)!. Thanks for any fresh ideas !Www@FoodAQ@Com

OLD SETTLER’S BEANS
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 lb!. ground beef1/2 lb!. bacon
1 chopped onion
Brown in skillet and drain excess grease!.

ADD:
16 oz!. can Red Kidney Beans (drained)
24 oz!. can Pork & Beans (drained)
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup Catsup
2 TBLS!. Molasses
1/2 tsp!. dry mustard

Mix Thoroughly !
Cook in a crock pot until hot!.


(Best if made night before)
MARINATED VEGGIE SALAD
1 lb!. can French style green beans
1 lb!. can small peas
1 lb!. can white corn
1 - 4oz!. jar pimento (chopped)
1 cup shopped onion
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped green pepper
1 cup sugar (I used artificial sweetener)
2/3 cup vinegar (I used red wine vinegar)
1/2 cup cooking oil
1 tsp!. salt
1 tsp!. pepper

1!.)Pour green beans, peas, corn & pimento in a colander to drain over a
large bowl!. Discard 1 1/2 cups of liquid!.
2!.)Put veggies in a large bowl and fold in onions, celery and green
peppers!.
3!.)Mix together thoroughly the remaining ingredients and toss with
veggies!.
4!.)Cover and let sit over night in refrigerator!. (The longer it marinates the better!.)

DIPS:

BACON - HORSERADISH DIP

MIX TOGETHER THOROUGHLY:
1 16oz!. container sour cream
1 8oz!. container cream cheese
2 1/2 oz!. horseradish
3/4 - 1 cup real bacon bits
3/4 - 1 cup salad dressing
1/4 cup honey
sugar to taste

Serve with chip, crackers or veggies!.


BLACK OLIVE DIP

MIX THOROUGHLY:

1 small can chopped black olives
3oz!. cream cheese softened

Mix with enough Mayonnaise to desired consistency!.
Worcestershire sauce (optional)!.
Tabasco hot sauce, to taste!.

7-LAYER DIP

INGREDIENTS:

2 cans refried beans
1 small container salsa
1 bag shredded lettuce
24oz!. container sour cream
1 bunch of green onions, chopped
1 small canned sliced black olives
1 package shredded cheese

DIRECTIONS:

1!.) In a 9 x 13 pan, spread refried beans!.
2!.) Cover with salsa!.
3!.) Spread lettuce over salsa!.
4!.) Cover lettuce with sour cream (put heaping spoonfuls randomly on top of lettuce & carefully spread)!.
5!.) Sprinkle cheese on top of lettuce!.
6!.) Sprinkle onions over cheese
7!.) Top off with olives!.

Hint:

Add some Tabasco to refried beans, mix thoroughly!.
Sprinkle 1/2 cup real bacon bits on top!.


CHICKEN FAJITA DIP

MIX TOGETHER THOROUGHLY:

1 (10 3/4oz!.) can Cream of Chicken Soup
1/2 cup sour cream
3/4 cup salsa
2 cups colby/jack shredded cheese
Hint:
Can be served cold or warm!.
Can be doubled, tripled!.!.!.!.etc!.
Excellent for a large crowd


Janie’s Recipe
I really have no clue what the heck this is called,
but its reallllllly realllllllly good!.


Depending on how much you need, you can double, triple, etc the
recipe!.!.!.


What you need:

1 lb sausage (Regular or Medium is best)
1 can Rotelli tomatos and Chillies (Regular)
4 pks cream cheese

What to do:

Fry the sausage and drain!.
Then put the sausage, the rotelli and the cream cheese in a crock
pot!.
Stirring occassional, cook on high til cheese is melted and its good
and warm!.
When done, turn to lowest temp to keep it warm - stir occassionally!.








Velveeta Ranch Dip

1 pound Velveeta cheese, cut up
1 (8 ounce) container sour cream
1 cup Ranch dressing

Microwave Velveeta in 1 1/2-quart microwavable bowl on HIGH 4 minutes or until melted, stirring after 2 minutes!.
Stir in sour cream and dressing!. Microwave 1 minute!.
Serve hot with tortilla chips or cut-up vegetables!.

Makes 3 cups!.

Cranberry Sauce Spread
Ingredients:
1 8oz!. Pkg!. cream cheese, softened
2 Tbls!. mayonnaise
? cup chopped pecans
1 16oz!. Can jelled Cranberry sauce
Instructions:
Mix all ingredients…except nuts…!.until well blended!. Add nuts and mix!.
Spread on crackers or celery or etc!.
Use as dip with chips!.

DESSERT:

CHOCOLATE ECLAIR CAKE
(NO BAKE)

INGREDIENTS:

1 large package Vanilla instant pudding
1 small package Vanilla instant pudding
3 1/2 cups milk
1 8oz!. container Cool Whip
1 box Honey Graham Crackers

DIRECTIONS:

1!.) Mix together and beat for 3 minutes on low speed, vanilla pudding and milk!.
2!.) Fold in Cool Whip!.
3!.) Line a 9 x 13 baking pan with 1 layer of graham crackers, pour 1/2 pudding mixture over crackers!.
4!.) Make a second layer of crackers and pour remaining pudding over crackers!.
5!.) Make a 3rd layer of crackers over pudding!.
6!.) Prepare Topping!.

Topping

Beat until smooth with mixer:

6 Tablespoons cocoa
2 Tablespoons cooking oil
2 Tablespoons softened margarine
2 teaspoons white Karo syrup
2 Tablespoons milk
1 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Spread evenly over chilled cake!. Refrigerate overnight before serving!.

Kreamy Kool-Aid Pie

1-(6 g) package un sweetened Kool-Aid powdered drink mix
1-(14 oz!.)can sweetened condensed milk
1-(8 oz)container Cool Whip frozen whipped topping, thawed!.
1-(9 inch) Graham Cracker Pie Crust (or Cookie crust)
Cool Whip for top (optional)

1!. In a medium bowl mix Kool-Aid and condensed milk, thoroughly!.
2!. Fold in Cool Whip!.
4!. If desired, spread more Cool Whip on top!.
5!. Chill for a minimum of 4 hours!.

I’ve used: Strawberry…Cherry…Lemon-lime (Key-Lime Pie)…!.Lemonade (Lemon Pie…might add some yellow food coloring for a more lemony look!.)


ROBERT REDFORD DESSERT

INGREDIENTS & INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOTTOM LAYER:
Melt 1 stick butter
Add 1/2 cup nuts and 1 cup flour!.

Press into bottom of lightly greased 9 x 13 baking pan!. Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees!.

MIDDLE LAYER:
Blend together 1 8oz!. package cream cheese and 1 cup sugar!. Fold in 1/2 small tub Cool Whip!. Mix well!.

TOP LAYER:
Mix together until mixture begins to thicken:
1 large package vanilla instant pudding & 1 large package instant chocolate pudding with 3 cups milk!.

Spread on middle layer and chill to set!. Spread remaining cool whip on top & garnish with nuts & grated chocolate if desired!.


DIRT PUDDING

INGREDIENTS:
1 pound bag of Oreo’s
1 large box of instant vanilla pudding
1 small container of Cool Whip
1 Tablespoon powdered sugar

INSTRUCTIONS:
1!.) Crush 3/4 bag of Oreo’s and spread in 9 x 13 baking dish!.
2!.) Make pudding as directed on package!.
3!.) Add Cool Whip & sugar, spread over crushed Oreo’s!.
4!.) Crush remaining Oreo’s and sprinkle on top of pudding mixture!. Refrigerate!.



Banana Pudding

I usually double the recipe!.!.!.!.never any left-overs!.

Ingredients:
Bananas
Use instant Banana pudding or vanilla pudding fix by directions on box!.
Cool Whip!.!.!.add to pudding mix thoroughly!.
Vanilla wafers
Toasted coconut!.

Line serving dish with a layer of vanilla wafers (a row up the sides of dish, also!.)
Add a layer of sliced of bananas
Gently cover with a layer of 1/2 pudding mixture!.
Make a second layer of wafers, bananas & pudding!.

Top with some toasted coconut and/or crushed vanilla wafers!.

I use this one often, great anytime of year!.

TORTILLA PINWHEELS

FILLING:

8 oz!. dairy sour cream
1 pkg!. (8 oz!.) cream cheese, softened
1 can (4 oz!.) diced green chilies, well drained
1 can (4 oz!.) chopped black olives, well drained
1 c!. grated Cheddar cheese
1/2 c!. chopped green onion

5 (10 inch) flour tortillas
Salsa

Mix all of the ingredients together thoroughly!. Divide the filling and spread evenly over the tortillas; roll up tortillas!. Cover tightly with plastic wrap, twisting ends; refrigerate for several hours!.
Unwrap; cut in slices 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick!. Discard ends!. Lay pinwheels flat on glass serving plate!. Leave space in center of plate for small bowl of salsa if desired!.

Makes about 50 pinwheels!.

For Christmas I even used red and green tortillas!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You could use sausage meat and cut into smaller portions!.
It is a good idea for the hostess and guests to organise who will bring what!.
Your example is a perfect example of bad planning!.
Try this, it may be new to you and some others!.

Bacon and Egg Slabs
Grease a rectangular oven dish and line with flaky pastry!. (I use ready rolled)
Fry off trimmed and diced bacon and allow to cool on paper towels!. Place in dish and make wells to drop 4 eggs in!. Pierce the yolks and cover with another sheet of pastry!. Pierce the pastry several times with a knife for steam vents!. Brush with milk!.
Bake in a 180C oven for 35-45 minutes until the pastry is golden!.
Turn out and allow to cool a little then cut in 75mm squares!.
Serve with tomato sauce!. (ketchup)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't use exact measurements for this but it's always a big hit:
Cut a medium sized bunch of broccoli into bite-sized florets!. Blanche in boiling water (45 secs-1 min!.) until crisp tender and shock in ice water and place in a large mixing bowl!. Chop up a red bell pepper, add to broccoli!. Drain and rinse 1 can of canelli (white kidney) beans, add to veggies!. Season with sea salt, fresh pepper, the juice of one or two lemons, appox!. 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil, and garlic powder or fresh crushed garlic, to taste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

how about a 7-layer taco dip, people always love when i bring that!. this is what i put in it:
1st- refried beans
2nd- ground beef w/a packet of taco seasoning in it
3rd- sour cream and cream cheese mixture
4th- guacamole
5th- salsa
6th- lettuce

there seemed to be at least one jerk that would mention food poisoning,,!.!.
I bring only deli platters
