Frying it will benifit you best, unless you like slimy food!. If you boil it, it will be the consistancy of snot!. You can cook it in gumbo and it is less slimy!. Food Network has lots of recipes on Okra!. My mom use to boil it and add tomato sauce!.!.!.I hated it, but my dad thought it was the best thing in the world!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ingredients

* 2 1/2 cups of fresh okra, washed and dried
* 2 medium yellow onions, chopped
* bacon fat
* 1 1/2 cups of stewed tomatoes
* salt and pepper to taste
* 4 slices of crumbled bacon


Directions

1!. Heat enough bacon fat to barely cover the bottom of your skillet!.
2!. Saute okra and onion for five minutes!.
3!. Add tomatoes, salt and pepper and cook over medium heat until the okra is tender!.

Okra & Tomatoes

4 slices bacon, diced into small pieces
1 small onion, peeled and chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 (15-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
1 tablespoon chicken base
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups fresh okra, cut into 1-inch pieces (may use frozen, if fresh not available)
Fresh ground black pepper

Cook bacon slightly!. Saute onion and garlic with bacon until tender!. Add tomatoes, chicken base, sugar and pepper!. Stir well and let simmer for about 20 minutes!. Adjust seasoning if needed!. Meanwhile wash okra and remove fuzz if using fresh and cut into pieces!. Add the okra and simmer until okra is done, about 20 more minutes (less if using frozen okra!.)

Kay’s Okra Fry Bread

1 cup cornmeal
1 cup self-rising flour
2 teaspoons salt
2? cups water
1 (16-oz) bag whole okra, sliced into ?” rounds
? cup chopped Vidalia onions
1 tablespoon clarified butter, plus more as needed

In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour and salt!. Whisk in water to make a thin batter!. Stir in okra and onions!.

Over medium heat, add clarified butter to a cast iron skillet!. Use a small ladle to pour batter onto skillet!. Pan should be hot enough to make batter sizzle!. Cook until underside is browned, about 3 to 4 minutes, then flip and brown on the other side!. Repeat with additional batter, adding more butter as necessary!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Fry it with loads of onions until onions are golden!.Remove the oil and add hot water to cover, add 4 tablespoons of puree, salt and pepper and leave on a low heat until it has reduced, taste!. If they are still a bit hard, add more water and continue on a low heat until cooked thru!. Serve with warm crusty greek bread or a french loaf!. Voila, delecious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

okra is very good!. it is actually one of my favourite vegetables!.

It is rich in nutrition etc!.!.!. you will feel good for eating it!.

You can cook it with meat or fish but you must put the okra towards the end so that it does not overcook!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

cut it into little chunks, you can add to a stew, gumbo, or you can dip it in either milk or buttermilk, and then into either a flour mixture or cornmeal and fry!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I love them as prawn and okra curry - cook a curry as normal add okra and cook through a bit, then the prawns at the last minute!. Lovely :-)Www@FoodAQ@Com
