Question: Is it safe to consume "cream of tartar" without baking it with something!?
i want to put some cream of tartar into my frosting so it can hold up!.!.!. i don't know where to get meringue powder and please don't mention it!.!.!. is it safe to add cream of tartar into my uncooked frosting!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, it's safe!. A small amount won't change the taste either!. If you're trying to get your buttercream to hold up better in humid weather, you can make it with half butter and half crisco, or with all crisco and some butter flavoring added in!. You can also buy dried egg white powder at the grocery store, which does the same thing for frosting as meringue powder (which can be purchased at Michaels or Walmart or Hobby Lobby)!. Cream of tartar helps stabilize egg whites but probably won't do anything for your frosting!.
