Cooking scallops without the use of a stove top? (or bbq)?!
I ordered some frozen scallops from Tesco because when I called to ask if they were precooked or not they said yes, they were precooked (i think the guy just assumed they were as the cooking instructions say to shallow fry for 3 minutes so he thought 3 minutes small amount of time, therefore must be precooked) ANYWAY, they turn out to be 100% raw!. and, the top of my stove (ie the burners) is not currently in working order!. SO, I need to find an easy way of cooking them with either an oven or a microwave (tried when i was younger & it shrunk them to about 1/8 of the size & only useful to be used as ammunition- however, if someone can tell me a way of microwaving them without turning them to bullets that would be helpful too!) other than that I could use the kettle to pour boiling water on them and hope they cook enough that way!.!.!. or putting them in the oven and using that as a heat source!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Luckily, they don't need much cooking, and I always reckon "less in more" with scallops: as you say, they cost £20 - £25 per kilo, so why cover them with all sorts of stuff that just masks their delicate flavour!?
Personally, I'd put a couple of tablespoons of olive oil and 1 finely chopped garlic clove in a tray in the oven at 220°C, 425°F, gas mark 7 (high, but not too high)!. When it reaches this temperature, take it out, turn the oven off and fry them in the hot garlicy oil as normal!. Serve with just any remaining flavoured oil, not the actual bits of garlic!.
As I said, less is more!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
