French onion soup question...?!

Question: French onion soup question!.!.!.!?
My grandfather gave me a HUGE bag of vidalia onions and I was considering making french onion soup because it is one of the few onion dishes my husband will eat!. He will only eat it if the onions are really cooked down (no crunch left whatsoever)!. I was considering making it in the crock pot so it could cook while I was at work Monday!. Has anyone done this!? If so, what recipe did you use!? Did the onions get cooked enough!? also, do you have any other recipes to use the rest of the onions!? Thanks!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
when making french onion soup the onions are sliced thin and cooked in butter over VERY low heat until the onions are caramelized, and very soft!.then beef broth is added!.!.(!.I add a little flour and sugar also)
I guess you could simply slice them thin and put in the crock pot with beef broth after cooking all day they will certainly be soft(add a bay leaf to if you have one)Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes, you can make it in a crock pot it won't be quiet like an original because you saute' the onions in butter before adding the beef broth!.!.!.but just put a little butter in with the broth and a bay leaf and it should be good and onions very well done after cooking all day
