Answers:
I have never heard anything so asinine as brown chicken = brown eggs!. I had a black and white speckled hamburg and she laid white, should it have been black and white eggs!?!? My white jersey giants laid a light brown egg, should those have been white!? Again people speaking out their butt and acting like it is gospel because they read it on the net!. My easter eggers were many colors, none were blue or green though they laid those colors!.
also, egg shell color has zero to do with feed!. Feed will however effect the yolk color!. The greens and corn of free range chickens on the average farm will make yolks more golden!. You may also hear lobes of a chicken will predict shell color!. Untrue, my silkies had blue lobes and laid pink eggs!.
It is strictly a breed thing and selective breeding can influence shades!. From my experience the rooster seems to carry the color influence!. Example, Marans are bred to produce a super dark brown egg the color of milk chocolate!. Arucanas for blue shells!. Taste and nutritional value is same though some try to claim different!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Simply put, just the color of the shell, and the breed of chicken:
Some chickens lay yellow, golden, blue, greenish hue, and brown eggs!.!.!.!.!.!.
It just depends on what breed, where they are raised, what they are fed (free range or caged):
Free range eat everything that they can get a hold of!.!.!.!.!.!.
Caged chickens are raised in humane conditions (Yes, I been to many local chicken farmers, and the HAVE ALL BEEN RAISED BETTER THAN I WOULD HAVE EVER IMAGINED)
Of course, the fresher the egg, the "fresher" the taste!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.When I lived in Germany, my cousin raised chickens and grapes (for wine, DO YA THINK!?!?) and the eggs from those chickens were some of the best that I've had!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Not to "plug" a product, but I, by happenstance, bought a carton of Egglands Best Eggs!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.(now here we go)
They are, by far, the BEST eggs that I have purchased in the US since I've been back from Europe!.!.!.!.!.Period!.!.!.!.!.!.And that's ALL I'll buy from now on!.!.!.!.
