I have a tortilla press and brought just recently at my Indian hardware store a "puri" press, while the others are right it is etiher hand tossed or rolled, if you use enough flour and heavy duty plastic wrap or packaging it can be done, I make whole wheat tortilla that way, and if you use the press for chapatis they puff more, I have found!.
It is a matter of time and convienece, I would say find, but the purists will alway have ther objectios, your the boss here!.
I am a former chef and live in Toronto Canada and eat in Indian places once a week and do alot of regional Indian cooking at home for myself and friendsWww@FoodAQ@Com

Didn't think chapattis were pressed I always thought they were rolled, but there's not a lot of difference in the ingredients (apart from the flour) so I can't see why not, you will only ruin one if it doesn't work

chapattis are initially rolled then slappedWww@FoodAQ@Com

Anybody round here seen a rolling pin recently!? Chapattis are traditionally made by slapping the dough from hand to hand and I guess the same goes for tortillas!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
