Try this instead!.
Take your pan!. Make sure you preheat it on medium!. Sprinkle water on pan when you think it is hot enough!. It should sizzle!.
Now, an hour before you cook the steak!. This is for any steak!. Doesn't have to be just a top round!. Lightly coat it with EVOO!. Extra Virgin Olive Oil!. Coat the entire steak lightly!. Take some dry rub!. You can make your own!. Sprinkle all over steak!. Rub it in good!. Let stand for about an hour in fridge!. Then when pan is hot and ready just slap it on the pan and wait on one side for 4 to 5 minutes!. You will notice some blood rising to the top!. When this happens flip steak ONCE!. Wait about two minutes!. Medium rare!. Good eats!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

First, sprinkle some salt in the pan!. Preheat the pan on medium high heat, and when it is hot, add the steak!. Sprinkle on seasoning if desired!. After about 4 minutes, turn it over and cook it for about 2 minutes!. It should be medium rare!. This is for a normal cut steak, about 3/4" thick!. If you touch it with your finger, it should have the same feeling as pushing your finger on your hand near the fleshy part of your thumb!.

By touch feel the base of your thumb where it meets your palm!. that is how it should feel when you push on it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

do you have a cooking thermometer!?---well done would be around 165 degrees--you want medium rare try around 140 to 150 ---stick the thermometer in the thickest part of the meat----Www@FoodAQ@Com
