I want to defrost to steaks to cook tonight, they were bought and frozen on the last day of their sell by date!
Will it be okay to microwave defrost then fry!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
defrost in frig or run under cold water!. Steaks a couple days past their sell date is fine!. Restaurants call it ripe, and they should be tenderer!.
Something yummy and easy! Slice meat in strips(easier when a little frozen) and or leave whole ,put in a pan pour this on top: a little soy sauce,1/4 to 1/2 cup veg oil 1/4, chopped onion and garlic , any amt is good really, Cook on high or on grill, eveyone will love it! Just one of my easy fav'sWww@FoodAQ@Com

I have used steaks and other meats that were frozen on their last day!. Generally meat is good for a couple days past that anyway (my bro-in-law is a butcher for a major supermarket chain and he told me this)!.
Because it cooks from the center out, I never use the microwave to thaw meat, so I can't say if it is a good idea!.!.!.If you put the steaks on a heavy cookie sheet or the bottom of a cast iron skillet (leave them wrapped) they will thaw more quickly in a cool place!.!.!.I am pretty sure they would be ready by dinner time unless they are very thick!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, certainly! Although it would be better to take it out of the freezer and let it defrost naturally!. I know someone who whacks frozen steak straight into the pan, but then she likes really rare steak and beef!.
And BTW!.!.!. Steak (beef and most red meat) needs to be "well hung", if you will pardon the expression! LOL! So it is not an issue that it was coming up to the best by/sell by date!. A different matter with pork or poultry though!. Best not to leave that until BBE when freezing!. Especially as you (probably) do not know how cool your fridge has been!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Meat - sell by date
I believe that is the date the butcher removes the meat to be recycled for pet food!.!.
the meat is still good for days!.!. (refrigerated!.)
PSST:
I found defrosting in the M/W is a poor methode!.!.
too many hot spots get cooked!.!.
I just leave it wraped in that plastic tray!.!.on the counter
remember IT sat in the butcher shop shelf for days!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't - you want to keep them cool even while defrosting - besides, microwaving to defrost slightly cooks the meat, making them rubbery - yuck! I would let them sit in a sink of cold water while they're in their wrapping!. It'll take longer, but it will taste better!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yeah, but it might be better to let them defrost in the fridge!. Defrosting in the microwave might cook them a bit and they'll be tough once you're finished grilling, frying, or broiling!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
you should let them thaw on the counter - when you defrost meat in the microwave the meat turns brown and the edges start to cook
if its warm where you are leave it outside for 1/2 hourWww@FoodAQ@Com

I'd not recommend microwaving them, try putting them in a plastic bag, and in warm water!. This will gradually de-frost them!.
They should be fine with regards to their sell by date however!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Give them a good sniff when they are defrosted, steak that is 'off' will have a very strong unpleasant smell!. If they smell ok, make sure you cook them well-done to be on the safe side!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
As long as they were frozen solid and not in your freezer for too long (like more than 3 months) it should be fine!. If it in anyway looks funny or smells funny throw it out!. Don't take chances with your health!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Sure will be ok!.!.!.!.!.!.do u cook everything u freeze by the due date!? I know I don't and so far I've killed no one and I am a very last minute person!. I defrost everything in the microwave!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Personally I would separate them and place in fresh cold water!.Change the water every 20 /mn's:or so until they are fully defrosted!. Enjoy!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Can't see that being a problem but don't do what I did last time I defrosted steaks in the microwave !.!.!. I left them in too long and they were as tough as old boots!. Yuk!Www@FoodAQ@Com
HELLO
AS LONG AS THEY WERE FROZEN ON SELL BY DATE THEN YOU ARE OK!.
