Answers:
There is no right answer!. Because corn is edible and often eaten when it's raw, when it's done being cooked is subjective!. If you like a crispier corn you leave it in for less time(3 to 5 minutes), if you prefer it softer, you leave it in longer 6 to 9 or more)!.

If you like a smokier, more concentrated corn flavor you can grill it, if you like no smoke, boiling is the way to go!. You can salt the water if you want, but most people put salt on the corn before they eat it anyway and salt really doesn't change the way the corn cooks, it does however speed up the time it takes for the water to boil!.

Sugar also has no effect on the cooking process and most corn is already sweet enough and will get sweeter when it's cooked!. Though sometimes, you may get a batch of corn that isn't particularly sweet and sugar may help with that (personally, I've never done it before)!.

To test the doneness of your corn, take a paring knife and press it into one of the larger kernels toward the middle of the cob (they take longer to cook so the middle is a good place to test)!. If there is a popping feel when you insert the tip of the blade into the kernel, then it's still crisp and if the blade slides in, it's a softer, more done texture!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hard to say because the timing depends on the freshness of the corn!.

Buy corn fresh and keep it cold!.
Husk the corn and bring a pot of water to boil!. add a tsp of salt and a tsp of sugar
Add corn and cover- wait until it smells "like corn" 5-15 minutes, depending on the freshness and quality of the corn!.
drain, cover with a towel, and serve with butter, salt, pepper, and honey ( trust me on this one!!!)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I put 2 inches of water with 2 tsp!. sugar in a shallow pan!.!.!.put corn in a row!.!.!.!.ear up ear down (Husked or unhusked)!. Cover with heavy duty aluminum foil!. Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees!. I do it this way, so I have plenty of stove or grill space for meat and taters!. when you peel off the foil, you should see and smell sweet steam!. I don't like to boil corn!.!.!.it usually tastes kinda soggy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Since I prefer the corn to be crisp and sweet, I boil it for no more than 3-4 minutes!. I do put salt in the water, and sugar if the corn is older than 3 days!. Corn should be eaten within 3 days of picking for the greatest sweetness!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i'm simple, i just peirce it with a fork and if it goes in easily i'm happy!. i usually just boil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I place it in boiling water for 7-10 min!. depending on how big the cob and kernels are!. Salt as you want!.!.!.!.in the water or after; that's just for taste nothing to do with the boiling!.
Grilling is nice but it is much more difficult and unless your a expert grill master not really worth the hassle!.
You can tell only by tasting it!.!.!.!. if its crispy and snaps in your mouth but thoroughly warm; its done!. If it is kinda mealy textured; its over done!.
* also when buying corn be sure it is yellowy with plump kernels!. You can usually husk it at the store and (if it looks like crap it'll taste like crap) but you don't have to buy it!. The best time of year for corn is August-September!.* the guy below me!.!.!. he's right too, my BF likes his done only about 3-6 min too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is all about preference!. Some people like their corn firm as others like it a little soft!. Technically, once it is warm it is done!. Actually you can even eat it raw if you prefer!. I personally like mine a little soft!. I boil my water and cook it for 15 minutes and I always enjoy it!!!
As far as the salt and sugar goes!.!.!. you dont have to do neither!.
Corn is naturally sweet!. Some people add 1-2 teaspoons of sugar to the cooking water to sweeten it even more!. That’s totally up to you!
Salt, on the other hand, should not be added to the cooking water as it will toughen the corn!. Sprinkle it on after the corn is cooked!.

I love corn!. Take a pot, add some water!.!. and then add the corn [the husk is removed]!. Instead of using a lid!.!.take some foil and cover the pot that way it can boil and steamed!. check the pot every couple minutes!. to know when it is cook, take a piece of the corn and feel it!. does it feel soft or hard!. if it feels soft, it is ready to eat!. it taste so good once it is done cooking!. it usually takes a good twenty minutes to be ready!. my mom cook it this way, and it comes out so good!. hope this helps!. good luck!

!.!.the time varies, it is depending on the amount of corn in the potWww@FoodAQ@Com

I always had a problem with this!. Sadly, I am originally from Iowa (the corn state) so you would think that I, of all people, could cook the darn stuff!. I could never get it right with fresh corn!.

However, I bought frozen corn on the cob - the Walmart GV brand, it is just under $5!.00 for a very large bag (2 meals worth for my family of 5)!. Bringing it to a boil, then covering and simmering on low boil for 5 minutes results in perfect corn on the cob every time!. It tasted just like fresh and always comes out right!.

The best part is that you don't have to clean it first - teehee :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

so i had no idea what i was doing like a week ago when i cooked corn on the cob!.!. my mother in law told me to put corn in there, then let boil, then turn off and let it sit!.!.!.!.
My boss at work told me to let it boil for 10 minutes then turn the water of!.!.!.!.!.

SO WHAT I DID!

I put corn in the pan than let it boil on high!.!.
Than i turned the heat down to between medium and low and let boil for like 5 minutes!.!.!. than i took it OFF the burner but let it sit in the pan until we ate it!.!. which was like 10 minutes!.!. or you can take it out right away!.!.!.
TO TELL IF IT WAS DONE,
i stabbed it with a fork!.!.!. lol
it sounds weird, but it kinda went in softly!.!.
Im new to the cooking world, so im sure there are better recipes out there!.!. :) good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com

Like you said, everyone has there own preferences etc!. This is the way we cook a big pot of corn ( say about 2 dozen )!. To hold 2 doz the pot is about the size of a canning kettle!. Clean the corn and cover with cold water, it usually takes 20 to 30 min to bring this to boil!. The corn has already been slowly warming up along with the water!. We only let it boil for 5-10 min and then turn off the heat source!. It's ready !! Again this is only a general rule!. Depending on the type of corn (we love peaches and cream) and the age (or size) of the kernels, you may need to adjust slightly!. The older the corn, the tougher it is!. also, if it was not picked fresh, it may be tough and starchy!.
To cook on a BBQ or even in a bonfire - only remove the tassel (silk) and leave the green husks on, and soak in cold water for a few hours before cooking!.

Happy Corn CookingWww@FoodAQ@Com

Hmmmmm!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.I think that you are putting to much thought into this whole corn cookin' thing!.
Do it a little different next time!. See if you like it better!. Everyone has a different opinion of good!.
I boil the water and then add the corn!. When the water boils again it is done!. If I am not ready to eat yet, I turn off the heat and cover the pan!. The corn is ready when the rest of the meal is ready!. My Mom puts the corn and water in the pan at the same time!. When the water comes to a boil the corn is ready!. They both taste the same to me!. Could it be the corn that you are disappointed with and not the method in which it was cooked!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
