Becoming a fregan?!

Question: Becoming a fregan!?
I was watching tonight with Trevor Mcdonald last night!. The topic was about wasted food!. In the show was a fregan (someone who rakes through supermarket dumpsters looking for disposed food)!. The food was all wrapped up and out of date by just maybe a day!. He found enough food to produce a small banquet cooked by Antony Worral Thompson!. The food appeared quite tasty and I couldnt believe the supermarkets were throwing away such good food when there are starving people in the world!.
Anyway, this guy never buys food, he just survies by eating the supermarkets rubbish free of charge!. He lloks quite healthy and was debating on doing the same!.
What do you think!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Despite our society's sterotypes about garbage, the goods recovered by freegans are safe, useable, clean, and in perfect or near-perfect condition, a symptom of a throwaway culture that encourages us to constantly replace our older goods with newer ones, and where retailers plan high-volume product disposal as part of their economic model!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

sounds disgusting!. not recommended!. If it is cooked properly shouldnt hurt you but there are no guarantees!. Ask yourself why it has been thrown out in the first place!. It is obviously considered a risk which the supermarket isnt prepared to take a chance on!. Use by dates are a 99% guarantee if stored and consumed correctly!. After that date the supermarket could be sued if someone became ill and wasnt given the correct advice!.
One thing I do agree with tho is it is a shame it is wasted!. Most supermarkets sell it off cheap once it reaches its use by date!. Perhaps they could give away it to very poor before it is due for the dumpster!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Quite an innovative guy! I would be rather afraid of the frozen food, meat and dairy products if they hadn't been kept refrigerated/frozen though!.

I think it's a shame so much food is wasted when there are people than desperately need it!. I'm happy to say, the supermarkets here donate the out of date food to the local food banks, who then pass it on to folks with low or no income!. Even the food from the farmer's market that hasn't before it's past it's prime is taken to the food banks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There's a lot of health risk!. Just because its wrapped up, doesn't mean it's safe!. also, rats are all over everything and defecating all through the dumpster!. If you do this, you might want to just stick to the freshest stuff you see them throw in!. also, if you start using this food don't expect people to want to eat what you make!. Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think it's cool!. At my local grocer if you find something out of date they give it to you free!. One woman I know spends 1 weekend a month searching the aisles for out of date products!. She took a $15 roast home a few months ago!. At my fiance's store the potato chip company throws out bags of chips because they're a few days expired!. He took some home and they were as fresh as any non-expired chips I've ever had!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The amount supermarkets throw away is disgusting but what do they expect with the prices of especially their meats!!

I am sick of seeing beef especially that is brown and not red but is still for sale i wouldnt pay for that let alone take it for free from a bin, i hear a lot of people do wait for the supermarkets rubbish and take stuff to eat!.!.!.!.!.one woman took all fruit veg and bread stuff and said she saved a fortune but at what cost i don't really think it would be healthy unless it was tins and things like crisps etc that you could disinfect when you got home!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dude, seriously go for it
haha

It would make paying rent easierWww@FoodAQ@Com

try it if you want!. but there is a definate risk of getting sick!. I mean!.!.!.dumpsters!?not necessarily hygenic you know!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I watched this and had exactly the same thoughts!. Would certainly cut my food bill!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
