You can buy little squirt tubes of colored, thin icing especially made for writing on cakes!. Supermarkets have them in the baking aisle!.

I think it would be tough to try to write with regular icing!. It's too thick!. According to this site, you can mix in 2 tsp of water for every cup of buttercream icing to get it the right consistency for writing!. http://www!.momsview!.com/discus/messages/!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The easiest and cheapest way to write on a cake is to take a plastic bag, put your icing in it, and cut one corner off of the bag (a very small bit of the corner!) Squeeze the bag until the icing starts coming out of the corner you clipped, and start writing on the cake!. It takes some practice, but it does a fairly good job for not a lot of cost!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

easy you buy a tip from the store!. icing tip if you know what im talk!. cut the edge of the bag just a little bit put the tip in fill it with frosting and squeeze!. icing is made from powder sugar, shortening, and a little vanilla flavor from what i remember!. you can add a little cinamin or color by using food coloring!. or you can be creative and draw happy birthday using!. candy like m and m's!. chocolate chips, dots, lolly pops!. gummy candy or anything!. and happy birthdayWww@FoodAQ@Com

Use the tube icing like everyone suggested, but first - take a toothpick and gently write the greeting in the frosting!. If the toothpick writing turns out strange, drag a knife over it and smooth it out until you're confident enough to trace over it with the tube icing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it is a normal icing, as long as it isn't liquid!.

put icing in a plastic bag like ziploc or something, twist closed, cut a VERY TINY corner off, write name on cakeWww@FoodAQ@Com
