One good way (which I ALWAYS do before using mine) is take a pinch of it a drop it in a small glass with about 3 TBS of white vinegar in it!.!.!.!.!.!.!.It should look like an Alka Seltzer tablet fizzing!.!.!.!.!.!.If you get no fizz, time to get new!.!.!.!.!.!.I usually replace mine every 6 months, as I live right on the beach, and the moisture here is well, A LOT!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

It does not spoil, but it can lose its ability to properly leaven if it is too old and has been exposed to moisture!. To test freshness of baking powder, put 1 teaspoon in half a glass of hot water!. If fresh, it will actively bubble in the water!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, it loses it levening agent strength!.!.!.!.!.toss even if unopened
you can try it, but your cake may not rise as good or at all
is that the only ingredient that is called for that is a levening agent!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It doesn't go bad, but it loses its ability to leaven in baking!. It should have an expiration date on the can, probably on the bottom!. I always buy the smallest can since I never use it up before it expires!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It's fine!. Its leavening ability should not be affected unless it has been exposed to moisture!. An expiration date is needed by law, even for things like honey, which never expires either (unless exposed to moisture)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
