Help with cupcakes..?!
I want to ice cupcakes with blue and orange icing, and there is no blue and orange icing in a can like the normal icing!. I bought tubes of "decorator's icing"!.!. is this okay to ice entire cupcakes!. Obviously it will take a lot and could take a while, but does the icing taste the same!? Or are the cupcakes going to taste weird if I ice them entirely in decorator's icing!? please help!Www@FoodAQ@Com

If it's Wilton's Decorator Icing, it has a much stiffer consistency than regular icing!. It's made stiff in order to use to make decorations such as roses!. But, the taste will be fine!. You can use it for frosting and filling cakes, cookies and cupcakes as well as making the decorations!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
it will look fine, and taste like the icing on store bought cup cakes, but it will cost you a fortune!.
i would suggest buying food coloring gels in blue & orange (available at most grocers now), and if you can't make your own icing, then purchase white icing in the can!. add some of the coloring to the icing in a big bowl then use your stand or hand mixer with whisk attachments to whip it all together!. this way you'll not only get the color you want, but you will also double the amount of frosting by whipping in the extra air!. you could divide your frosting can in half and do one half orange & the other blue!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Gel will not have the consistency of frosting & will affect the taste, or may taste like chemicals!. You can find the gel of color here:

Or use white icing/frosting & run the color(s) through like this:

Or see if you can find food coloring, & use a few drops to color the white icing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Just get yourself 2 tubs of white icing (Duncan Hines is best, IMO) and dye one orange and one blue!. Use paste food color that is sold w/ cake deco supplies at Walmart, Michael's or Hobby Lobby!. (Do NOT use liquid food color that you use to dye eggs at Easter!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com
decorative icing is more sweet than regular icing, I would get regular buttercream icing or another white icing and use food coloring to get the colors I want!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
