In cooking terminology..what does it mean "softened butter"?!
You are probably gasping right now, how can a mother not know such word!. English is not my native language and I was never allowed to be in the kitchen when I was a child or teenager, so I never really learned how to cook!. We had servants so all I needed to do is focus on my studies!. But I am learning and I'm able to come up with my own cooking recipes, family and friends are sort of my guinea pigs in a way, LOL! So far, nobody has been sick yet!
Oh, but I've been told I am good cook!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Softened butter means butter that has been left out of the fridge for several hours until it is room temperature and it soft and gooey!. Good for you learning to cook!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Same answer as everyone else, but I would like to add that I usually don't remember to take the butter out until I'm in the process of cooking, so to speed up the softening, I put the butter very near an oven that's preheating or any source in the house that gives off heat subtly!. It is not good to soften the butter in the microwave, because it melts and changes how it will act in the recipe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I am usually not patient enough to wait for the butter to soften by leaving it out!. I will put the measured amout in a microwave safe bowl, and nuke it for about 10 seconds!? If not enough, maybe another 5 seconds!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It basically means to leave it out on your counter until it reaches room temperature!. Do not put it in the microwave or it will melt and be too soft!.
I'm sure you're not the only one that doesn't know the term!. I'm sure your cooking skills are just fine!. Enjoy!Www@FoodAQ@Com
