Creme Brulee question?!

Question: Creme Brulee question!?
Can I use a coffee mug instead of a ramekin in the oven!? Will it melt or disfigure!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Not recommended unless you know the specifics of the mugs!. Though they may be manufactured to hold hot liquids, their glaze may not stand up to intense dry heat in the oven!. Some may work, but I wouldn't chance it if you don't have the manufacturer's specs on how ovenproof they are!.!.!. If the glaze or decorations start to "burn" how's your brulee going to taste!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

um i've never made it that way before!. you can use other little dishes instead of a ramekin!. i do that sometimes!. also take into consideration that the deeper the thing the more soupier/watery it will become!. (so coffee mug!? nono)Www@FoodAQ@Com

you could use a coffe mug but if its rubber the heat waves would melt it and it would taste horrible but i you put allumuninuim around it it wont melt as much but youwould have to cover the inside tooWww@FoodAQ@Com

It will be fine provided it's made of oven safe materials!. If you aren't sure, don't use it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
