Chinese guests for dinner?!

Question: Chinese guests for dinner!?
I am having some friends over for dinner, they are from China and her parents are visiting and I decided to invite them over!. I know her mother is not eating meat, but her dad does!. What should I cook!? I would like to surprise them with something, I will probably cook few types of food, but I want them to at least enjoy one meal!.

Answers:
Make mabo tofu for the vegetarian in the family!. Chicken with cashews is good and not difficult to prepare!. Have plenty of real rice (not instant)!. If you can get to a Chinese grocery store and get some jasmine rice, that would be great!. They will also have the sauce for the mabo tofu!. My MIL makes lots of dishes for dinner, she will make shrimp in soy sauce along with a beef, pork or chicken dish!. Chinese dinners have 5-6 items where everyone take a little of everything!. A soup would be great, egg drop soup is very easy to make, or just toss together a light soup with chicken broth, tofu, snow peas and mushrooms!. You can also use chicken meat but the tofu will make it appealing to the vegetarian mother!.

Chinese also love fresh fruit!. Serve fresh fruit for dessert!. The things Americans consider a typical dessert (pie, cake, ice cream) are too sweet for most Chinese tastes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think you should treat them to good ol' American cooking!. All the parents know about American food is probably McDonald's and pizza (hmph)!. Other than the mom not eating meat, they are probably not overly picky!.

How about:

BBQ Ribs & Chicken
BBQ Baked Beans
Green Beans
Potato Salad

Roast Pork Tenderloin
Scalloped Potatoes
Asparagus w/ Hollandaise Sauce
Sauteed Cabbage (not overcooked)
Stewed Apples (sometimes called "fried" apples)

Whole Roasted Chicken
Roasted New Potatoes, Carrots, & Croutons
Green Salad w/ lots of fresh veggies in it
Mac & Cheese

Fried Fish
French Fries
Cole Slaw
Hushpuppies
Corn on the CobWww@FoodAQ@Com

Cook something they may not be used 2!. Don't go w/the "They're from China so I'm going 2 cook chinese food" route!. Depending on your culinary skills, u could cook a pasta or veggie dish!. U can cook Dad good old-fashioned meat&potatoes!. U could cook pasta for both Mom&Dad & simply add meat (steak, chicken, etc!.) to Dad's dish!. What would be great is if u exposed them 2 other cultural food (i!.e!. Mexican, Italian, Indian, African, etc!.)! Hope this helps! :-)

BTW, u can still show off your culinary skills & cook them a Chinese stir fry!. Make Mom's w/veggies!. Add steak 2 Dad's!. Just don't make this the first meal u make them!. ;-)Www@FoodAQ@Com
