Question: I'am baking a cake!. It requires 85gms of flour!. I dont have scales but am using estimates:!?
I found that U!.K!. self-raising four is 110 grams per cup!.
My question is what kind of cup should I base my estimate on !?

An average teacup!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I used my Salter Scales to try and give an estimate and a Royal Standard China Tea Cup made in England from a Tea Set more than 38 Years Old!.

90 Gram Weight as i have no 5 Gram Weight to make it 85!.

Plain Flour ,my conclusions!.
90 Grams is
About under an inch short of top of Cup!. So an inch short of the top of Cup should do it!.

PS Three Quarters of a Cup, Average Tea Cup!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

85 grams - is that all!?! What kind of cake is it!.!.!.!? Another good estimate is that a slightly-heaped tablespoon is about an ounce - an ounce is roughly 28 grams, so 3 slightly heaped tablespoons should get you there (28 x 3 = 84)!.

But I'd always use scales (I need to buy some more accurate ones; the digital set I currently have only weigh in 2g increments; I'd like to get 1g increment set, because you can't weigh odd-numbered amounts!. Many recipes I have call for 25g of such-and-such, and I can, currently, only weigh either side of that (24 or 26)!. Pretty useless really!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com

A proper measuring cup!. I'm a great fan of estimating in cookery but baking is as much about science as cooking and you need to be accurate!.
As you've already started you could use a single portion yogurt pot or a tea cup!. Good luck I'm sure it will taste lovelyWww@FoodAQ@Com

I wouldn't use a cup if you're not sure of the right size because it is important to get the quantities right!.
But a tablespoon is the equivalent of 25grams of flour, so just under 4 should do it for you!.
Hope this helps!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

85 grams of flour is eqaul to 3/4 cup of flour
