How to turn a rub into a marinade?!
I have a rub for steak that I really like!. Is there a way I can turn it into a marinade!? I suppose at least a paste, but I would prefer a marinade!. I would guess you add oil, but I don't want to use ONLY oil!. Any suggestions!?

You're on the right track!. Instead of rubbing it into the meat, you want the meat to sit in it for a while!. So you want to dilute it!. Some oil is good!. It tenderizes the meat some, makes it brown nicely, and enriches the tastes!.
You've got a wide choice of liquids you might add, depending on your preferences!. I like to use pineapple juice or tomato juice!. Lemon juice has a good, sharper flavour!. I like cider or malt vinegar, too!. Water, wine !.!.!.!? Use enough that it's a liquid, but sort of on the thicker side !.!.!.
Because I tend to buy less expensive steaks, I like to add meat tenderizer (papain) to the marinade (or to a rub)!. This is a white powder that's sold in the same section as spices!. In nature, it's found in raw pineapple and papayas!. And these, processed on a blender or food processor, are good too!.
Ideally, you'll let the meat marinate for a few hours, turning it about halfway through!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The purpose of a marinade is to tenderize the tissue!. Oil won't do that, and will also burn on the BBQ!. You can add a LITTLE olive oil, but you'll need something like vinegar, beer or wine to help break down the tissue and make the meat tender!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Oil is NOT a tenderizerWww@FoodAQ@Com
Oil and beef broth!. I would also add a small splash of white vinegar just to make it taste clean!. That way you won't be adding another strong flavor, like wine, to the rub you love so much!. Oh, and use Canola oil!. It's better for you than Vegetable oil, and won't burn like Olive oil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I think oil would be the best, you wouldnt have to use too much just enough to coat, and you wouldnt have to add any more oil when cooking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I would puree some garlic and onions, add a dash of sherry or white wine and the rub!. You could also just add the rub to barbecue sauce to make a paste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
1 cup cider vinegar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon steak rub (use the same as you will use on the steak)
