Answers:
Rissoles, I can assure you, are English as well as Australian, as my mum used to cook them!. They are cooked meat leftovers combined with potato and fried - I have not heard of fish ones!. They were popular post-WW11 when food was scarce and I supposed were meant to sound French and posh!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

no a rissole is not posh, its an aussie thing (well at least i assume it is, because im australian and i live in england, and no one in england knows what it is)
I would discripe a rissole as mince or fish rolled and flattened (imagine a thick beef patty that you would put on a burger) and cooked!. you can add anything to a rissole, onion, carrot, breadcrumbs, mash, whatever you fancy!. its just a cheap alternative way to eat meat!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

a rissole is a large meatball often served with a rich gravy and steamed veggies!.

It is a very classy dish or can be dressed down to be very yummy comfort food

I believe it is possibly of Scots origin as I learnt to make this as child, my parents were highland Scots Celts!. and thats how we ate!.!.!.

A rissole is about double the size of a golf ball!. I use salt bush mutton that had been minced and then ground in a mortar and pestle with a little salt and sugar, when smooth add a cup of oats and one finely chopped onion, beat in an egg and a good pinch of mace, fresh ground clove and black pepper then rest in fridge over night!.

Next day mix with a table spoon or so of flour
form into balls and rest for a few hours, dip into hot oil till browned then out, when they are all done, fill baking dish scatter onions carrots parsnips bacon pieces and bake slowly till done with a cup of water!. pull out the rissoles and add a rue make a gravy, serve with mashed potatoes two rissoles and gravy over everything
