We are having a family get togather and I am really trying to eat healthy!. Cookouts are generally not very healthy so I'm trying to find ways to not take away from a summer cookout but still make it healthy without people spitting out the food!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Lean ground beef is fine!. Turkey burgers are healthy but the reality is that often times the turkeys used for ground turkey are "fattened" up!.

Either way you go you can add flavor with diced onion, bell pepper, garlic, salt and pepper!. I add an egg and bread crumbs or cracker crumbs to lean meat mixes because without all the added fat the meat tends to fall apart!.

You can use half turkey and half extra lean ground beef!. My guys can't tell the difference when I do this!.

There are some great veggie burger recipes out there!. I just make mine!.!.no recipe!. I use brown rice and chick peas (garbanzo beans) and shredded carrots for the base, add an egg or two, bread crumbs, and season it well!.

It does kind of ruin your day when the kids bring the yuck factor to dinner, doesn't it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

good quality low fat beef isn't all that bad for you- but turkey will certainly be lower in fat if it is ground turkey breast!. You can make it taste better and hold its shape better by adding some seasoned breadcrumbs and then be sure to add some of the usual seasonings (salt, pepper, etc)!. I have seen people add cheese to the turkey patties for flavor, but then you have just added back salt and fat and probably are no better off than if you just started with beef in the first place!.!.!.!.

Chicken skewers (with lots of veggies like tomatoes, peppers, onions) are very low fat and healthy- or just veggie skewers with no meat is a healthy option!. Grilling food is a healthy way to cook because the fat drips off- it's probably the side dishes and sauces that you may be used to that have made your cookouts unhealthy!. Salads without mayonnaise dressing and fresh fruit and veggies on the grill (or not on the grill- as in fruit salad) are all practical and not out of place at a cookout!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What about some black bean burgers!? those would be delicious and out of the ordinary!.!.!.sounds fun to try something new to me!. you just get some black beans, mush them up with some wheat flour!.!.!.add onions, garlic, salt, whatever!.!.!.and make them into patties and put them on the grill for a while!. they're a bit difficult to flip though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
