Answers:
Mirin is not rice vinegar, but rather, rice wine!. You can buy cheap sake and add sugar, honey, or agave nectar to a slightly syrupy consistency and you have a good equivalent!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Substitutes: 1 tablespoon dry sherry + ? teaspoon sugar
OR sherry
OR heat two parts sake and one part sugar
OR white wine + sugar to taste
OR white wineWww@FoodAQ@Com

Rice vinegar is also a good alternative!. Cutting back on the mirin is not all that cost effective!. Spend the few more cents, its worth it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

plain rice vinegar with a little sugar added!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
