The easiest way to measure shortening - for one half cup of shortening, put one half cup of water in your measuring cup!. Put in enough shortening and push it down into the water!. When the water level reaches one cup, you now have one half cup of shortening!.
This makes it very easy to measure and very easy to clean up!. I got this tip from 4-H!.

I don't know if you mean like an actual tip like the shortening one, that's a good one, I'll have to remember that! But, just an all around tip would be to always TASTE everything during and after you think it's done!. Season/adjust until you think it's perfect!. All good cooks taste their food while preparing!. Oh and fresh, real ingredients like butter and cream for example!. Real butter and real cream!. Can't go wrong! Unhealthy, yes, but in moderation, the result is incredibly good tasting food :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
I buy soy crumbles that look just like cooked ground beef!. You can use them as an alternative to anything you would have used ground beef for!. Such as: casseroles, chili, tacos, even meatloaf!. It has protein, fiber, no fat and cost way less!. No one knows I have made the switch when I serve it in most dishes!. They are sold at all grocery stores!. A good brand at Raley's is called 'Smart Ground' by Lightlife!. It makes cooking easier and is so much better for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
