How do I make frosting out of powdered sugar, milk and butter w/o shortning?!

Question: How do I make frosting out of powdered sugar, milk and butter w/o shortning!?
I need to frost cup cakes for my daughters birthday!.
I am decorating them with that star tipped piece so I think it has to be pretty thick!. I don't want icing, I know that much!.

I know I use to make frosting this way, but I can't remember how!. All the receipts online call for shortening and those are under the “easy frosting”!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It depends on how many cupcakes you have to do!.!.!. when I make caramel sandwich cookies !.!.!. I use 4 tablespoons of butter, 2 tablespoons of milk and about 4 cups of powdered sugar!.!. melt the butter, and stir in the powdered sugar, I usually use an electric mixer (it makes it ALOT easier and gets it "made" faster)!.!.!. if the powdered sugar makes it entirely too thick you can add as much milk as you need until it makes it as thin as you want!. For added flavor you can also add a little vanilla!.

If it gets too thin, just add more powdered sugar :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

A nice idea is to use cream cheese and powdered sugar!. Makes a wonderful topping for cakes and you can make it as thick as you like

Or you can make a cooked frosting -
1 cup sugar
1 dash Salt
(for a chocolate flavour - 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate -- grated - 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder)
1 cup boiling water
5 (or thereabouts) tblspns of cornstarch - depending on how thick you want it you might want more, or if you want it slightly thinner then reduce the amount

Mix it all together and heat, stirring until it thickens!. Spread onto cake(s) and refridgate to set!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Simply substitute an equal amount of butter for the shortening!. I just made a nice thick buttercream frosting with powdered sugar, butter, and a tablespoon or two of milk about three days ago!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Years ago we always made it with margarine, powdered sugar and a tad of milk and glued some graham crackers together!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
