Yes, It's true !.!. Here is a recipe for you =)

Steak Tartare

INGREDIENTS
1 pound finely ground beef tenderloin
1 teaspoon brown mustard
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (e!.g!. Tabasco?), or to taste
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon brandy
1 pinch salt, or to taste
ground white pepper to taste
1 egg
DIRECTIONS
In a medium bowl, mix together the beef, mustard, hot pepper sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brandy, salt, pepper and egg until well blended!. Arrange the meat in a neat pile on a glass dish, and cover with aluminum foil!. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend!. Serve as a spread on crackers or toast!.

*** You can also separate the egg yolk and add that on top of the meat, just made a little "well" in the top if the chilled meat and put the yolk in it !.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A wedding wouldn't be a wedding in this part of the world (Wisconsin) if Steak Tartar wasn't served!. Primary requirement-fresh, high quality steak, chopped very fine!. The seasonings are optional, varying from family to family, caterer to caterer!. Usually salt, pepper, sometimes capers & Lea & Perrins or Worchester!. Normally served with thin rye slices & raw onion!. Now & then I've seen the onion chopped & mixed with the meat!. I've never understood the raw egg part of it!. I've never seen anyone eat that portion!. Tradition!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is spelt either Tatar or Tartare!. Always use prime beef fillet and chop it finely with a knife!. Do not mince it! Use 6oz per person!. Season with sea salt and black pepper and perhaps a little Lea & Perrins!. Mould into a mound and make a well in the top deep enough into which you place a raw egg!. Garnish with anchovy fillets, capers and a couple of gherkins cut into fans, sliced beetroot and tomatoes!. Loverly!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yep!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.fresh coarse ground steak placed on a mound on a plate, there is an indentation in the top where a raw egg is placed, the 2 anchovies are on top of that!.!.!.!.!.!.!.NOT my cup of tea!.!.!.!.!.!.BTW, it's spelled tartare (pronounced tar-tar)

Don't buy the meat already minced, it has too much fat, even the lean one!. It doesn't have to be a good piece, as you're going to mince it, but get one with very little fat!. I add to mine a small pinch of ASDA Extra Special Morrocan Style Rub, gives it a nice flavour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes, the steak is raw!. And ground!. My grandmother used to make it when we were little!. Back then, the meat was much safer and of a higher quality!. Not scary like it is now!. I don't eat beef or pork anymore!.

Steak Tar-tare is the correct spelling, I believeWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yep!

Raw ground steak, surrounded with finely-chopped raw onions, with a raw egg sat in the middle of the heap and sprinkled with fresh parsley!.
