Baking powder is about 1/4 as strong as baking soda!. As a result I've heard people say that if you don't have baking soda then just use 4x the amount in baking powder!.

Hi yes you can still use baking powder, baking soda is four times stronger than baking powder so if the recipe says one teaspoon of baking soda then you need to use four teaspoons of baking powder!. It will work fine in this recipe however because they are different ( baking powder is baking soda just with corn starch) acidity with more complex recipes the acidity will be out and it might not work but its going to be ok in fudge squares!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
