I have icing (powdered) sugar, milk, but no butter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Icing can be made with powdered icing sugar, water and a little lemon juice, or sugar, milk and a drop of vanilla essence!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you want the icing to stay soft for a few days, then you need to use some kind of oil-based product!. If not butter, then lard, shortening, margarine, cooking oil, or even Pam non-stick (if you have a pet bird, remove it from cooking area before using Pam)!. Your icing should contain icing sugar and an oil-based product only!.

The icing will go hard in 24 hours if you use water-based products (water, milk (I wouldn't use milk))!. It's your choice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can Make a very good icing with this recipe and no butter!.
1/4 cup sour cream
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups powdered sugar
1tsp vanilla
you can leave out the chocolate if you want vanilla icing!.
You do not need butter but you do need some kind of flavoring!.Good luck!.PamWww@FoodAQ@Com

I've made it with just powdered sugar and milk, before!. Just add a little bit of milk at-a-time to the sugar to make a paste, then add a little bit more to make it slightly runny!. You can drizzle it on top of the cake, but not on the sides!.

It will be semi-transparent when it 'dries'!.

You can make it using shortening or Crisco in place of the butter but your frosting will not be as rich or as tasty as when it is made with butter!.
