The choke is the fiberus leafy part just above the heart, the heart is the centermost part of the artichoke!. it is located near the bottom of the plant!. If you are steaming the whole thing just trimm off the points and let it boil in salted water for 15-20 mins or steam it for 10-15 minutes!. If you steam/boil it long enough it will be soft and edible!. you will be able to pull the leaves off of it and ean the little bit of flesh at the bottom of each leaf!. or you can trim all of the heavy leaves off exposing the choke and heart!. The heart is completly edible!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

what i do is boil them!. Then get a bowl of melted butter and mix it with a little lemon juice (however it taste good it you) then i pick off the leaves and dip the end (not sharp obviosly) into the butter then put the end between my teeth and scrape the meat off!. you keep peeling and eating the leaves untill you get to the center which is the heart!. There will be little hairy things all over it, dont eat those, pick them off or scrape them with a knife or spoon!. Then dip it in butter and eat it!. my mouth is watering! the heart is SO good! enjoy!. (sorry if this didnt make sense, it is hard to describe)Www@FoodAQ@Com

i work at a grocery store and i wondered the same thing!.!.!.so i asked someone who was buying artichokes!. she said that she steams them and then when there done you pull the leafs of and there's a meaty part you suck off but you also can dip it in butter first!. (I hope this helps)Www@FoodAQ@Com
