i want to make a cake for my grandmother's birthday, but she has diabetes!. do they have sugar free cake mix like pillsbury or betty crocker in regular grocery stores!? i dont want to make the cake from scratchWww@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
In my grocery store the sugar free cake mixes are in a slightly different area from the regular cake mixes; with all the other special foods for diabetics!. If you can't find them, ask someone!. There may be a special section of your store that carries those kinds of things!.
The brand will be different, so read the instructions at the store to make sure you have everything you need!. also some of those cake mixes make smaller cakes - single layered instead of double as in the the mainstream brands!. If so you'll need to cake mixes for a layered cake or a big 13x9 rectangular pan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is not the SUGAR that is the enemy of diabetics!! it is the CARBOHYDRATES!!
Any flour (white flour for cake making) is going to spike the glucose level much more than the small amount of actual sugars in the cake!!!
Do NOT make a sugar free cake!!!
Make a regular cake!. Grandmother can decide how many grams of carb to eliminate from her dinner to have a small serving of the real cake!!
Nothing is forbidden more than a craving for good food eliminated from the diet!!
If you bring a "sugar free" cake to my house I will have a temper tantrum and you will have to clean up the mess I make by throwing the darned nasty tasting thing in your face!Www@FoodAQ@Com
