Can I cook hot fudge in a slow cooker instead of a double boiler?!

Question: Can I cook hot fudge in a slow cooker instead of a double boiler!?
I have a hot fudge recipe that cooks for close to 3 hours total over a double boiler!. It's worth the trouble, flavor-wise, however it's summer in Arizona and standing over a hot stove for 3 hours is a little uninviting!.

Can I make the recipe in my slow cooker instead of a double boiler!? My understanding of the purpose of the double boiler is to provide slow, even, indirect heat, all to prevent burning!. Is the porcelain of the slow cooker sufficiently thick to make the heat indirect!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

hmmm!.!.!.I wouldn't chance it!. You could end up with quite a burnt mess!. Why not put the double boiler on the bbq so it doesn't heat up the house!?

Hope this helps!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would think that the slow cooker would get to hot!. Chocolate will burn very easily, that is why you use a double boiler!. If you used the slow cooker with water in the bottom and put the chocolate in something over it to simulate a double boiler that might work!. However, don't use the lid!. You wouldn't want the water moisture to drip back into the chocolate!. You must have a WONDERFUL recipe to mess with it for 3 hours!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think it would probably work as long as it was on low and you stirred it often!.

I'm special and have managed to burn things in slow cookers!.!.!.!. including chili!.

If you have something that you could sit in the slow cooker with water underneath that could work too!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

3 hours!?!?!? eeek!!! I hope you have airconditioning!!

hot fudge from the hershey site is good and doesn't take quite as long!.
