Oh you could deep fry shoe leather and it would taste good!
I usually use a beer batter but since you are only 13 (i'm guessing cuz yer friend is 13) tempura batter is a good idea!. Look in the ethnic sectioon of your local grocery store!.
Or you could try this, lightly coat your shrimp in plain flour, jus dust it really!. Then dip in an egg mix and dip it in one of the following!.
Panko bread crumbs-this is a Japenese style bread crumb that can also be found in the ethnic section of most markets, or even try a local Chinese market if there is one close by!.
To the panko add a little salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and celery salt!. Or just do it plain!. And lower into the fryer!.
Or mix some unsweetened coconut flakes with the panko and put in the fryer!.
Or about 1 cup flour mixed with salt and pepper, 1/2 tsp celery salt, dash of chili powder, 1/2 tsp granulated garlic, 1/2 tsp seasoned salt!. Mix well!.
also make sure you use RAW shrimp!. You can get the with them with shell removed or the shell on!. If you feel confident enough to remove the shell they are cheaper that way beauce shelling them can be time consuming!.
Serve with coacktail sauce!.
Or if you are doing coconut shrimp make a sweet sauce of some kind, use or make sweet and sour sauce!.
Cocktail Sauce:
Ketchup
Squeeze of lemon juice
Horsedaish
Fresh or dried parsley
Dash of black pepper
And maybe a little seasoned salt
Mix well keep tasking it!. Good cocktail sauce is just eye balled!. You can also use a little canned marinera sauce with it as well!.
Sweet and Sour Suace:
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup maderine orange juice (or pineapple)
2 tsp soy sauce
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp dry mustard
1/2 cup vinegar
Just put everything in a small pan and simmer until it thickens!. Use right away or put in an airtight contianer and put in the fridge!. Warm it up when you get ready to use it!.
Always dust your raw shrimp with flour before using a wet batter or dip for frying!. The shrimp is so slipery that your batter will fall right off if you don't!.
Oh yeah one last tip!. When you lower the shrimp into the fryer hold onto the tail, and put your hand as low as you can and hold the shrimp there for about 10 seconds!. Then release this will help kep the shrimp from sticking to the bottom and each other!. Take the baskets out of the fryer so you have more room!. Shrimp cooks fast and you may need to turn it, so keep a close eye on it!. Cook it only untill it has just turned a golden brown other wise you may over cook the shrimp and end up with a rubbery product!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
