Bread dough didn't rise--help!?!
I was trying to make bread, and I guess the yeast must've been too old because the dough didn't rise!. Do I have to throw it out, or can I salvage this into something edible!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Stuff the dough into a zip lock baggy and put it into the fridge!. Go to the store tomorrow and get some more yeast!.
Dissolve the yeast in warm water with some sugar!. SUGAR, not splenda or something else!.
tear the dough into small bits and work it into the yeast water!. You may have to add some more flour to it, but it is so worth the effort so you don't have to toss the dough!.
In the bakery we usually had some "starter" left over from rolls, donuts, etc!. We kept this in the fridge each day and used it in the fresh dough the next day!.
Always check your yeast before measuring anything else out!. Put it in the warm water with a little sugar and when it starts bubbling it is ok to go ahead and start making bread!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Make it into pizza dough! It will be wonderful!.
There could be a number of reasons the dough didn't rise but if you think it's too old, that would do it!.
Drafts will do it
Not having hot enough water being used will do it
Having too hot water will do it
Not kneading enough will do it
Mixing in the wrong order will do it
And there are probably more
But, get that homemade pizza going!. Put the crust only in the oven on 400o and bake for 5 minutes to firm up the crust!. Then add all your toppings and bake for 20 minutes or until golden and bubbly!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What type of bread are you trying to make!? Does it have a starter!? I have learned that there are several different kinds of yeast, so make sure that you had the correct yeast to make bread!. also, use only warm water with the yeast, not hot or cold as it will kill the yeast!. Dough needs a warm place to rise and usually must be covered with some plastic wrap!. Can you add more details about the bread you are making so I can help advise you better!?
Ok, I looked at the recipe and it sounds pretty easy!. Do not use metal when mixing yeast or dough! (the metal somehow reacts with the yeast and can kill it) also are you allowing the yeast/water to get mixed well and foam a little!? Did you check the date on the yeast!? I also use King Arthur Unbleached flour, it gives great results! I included the link below!. Hope the advice helps!. Baking bread is so rewarding and wonderful!Www@FoodAQ@Com

a good way to use it is to make a mixture or tomato paste, cheese, mustard , pepper, dash of wostershire sauce!. (make sure you have a good amount)
roll out the dough flat into a square(or as close as you can get) spread the mixture on, leaving a 3 cm gap on eact side, then roll up!.
when you have finished rolling twist both end so it is kind of a parcel!.
Put in oven on aout 160 for 15-20 minutes!.
then cut into about 4 or however mamny you can!.
(you can glaze with milk before you bake to get a more golden look!.)
hope i helped :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm afraid I have to agree with Bit!.
When I'm in doubt about my yeast, I will proof the yeast before doing anything else!. Make sure your water is warm enough, and not too hot!. If the yeast doesn't get foamy within five minutes or so, I'll postpone my breadmaking until I get fresher yeast!.
Live Yeast, sugar (never a substitute) and water between 100* and 115*F (never hotter and never colder) are the keys to good breads!.
