Answers:
Yes, you can do it that way!. Make yourself a batter to dip the strips of cheese in, fry them in the oil and enjoy!!!

Good luck!!

Here's a recipe if you don't have one:

1 block of any hard cheese
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon tabasco
1 medium egg
1/2 cup finely grated cheese
Buttermilk

Place cheese in freezer for one half hour!. Remove cheese and cut into 1" thick strips just before cooking!. Mix batter; add corn meal and flour, salt, tabasco, egg and add buttermilk until at a consistency slightly thinner than toothpaste!.

Dip cheese sticks into batter (use toothpicks to handle them) carefully place in a pan of hot oil making sure that oil covers good, do not put in to many at once or they will stick together!. When browned evenly remove and immediately roll in grated cheese!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mozzarella Sticks
1 pound mozzarella sticks (string cheese) or brick mozzarella
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 cups Italian bread crumbss
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2/3 cup flour
1/3 cup cornstarch
Vegetable oil (for deep frying)

If using brick-form mozzarella, cut the cheese into finger-size sticks!.

Beat the eggs with water and set aside!.

Mix bread crumbs, garlic salt and Italian seasoning and set aside!.

Blend flour with cornstarch and set aside!.

Heat vegetable oil to 360 degrees F!.

Dip cheese in flour, then in egg wash and then coat with bread crumbs!. Place carefully in hot oil and fry until golden!. This takes just a few seconds so watch carefully!. When golden, remove from hot oil and drain!.
