Teenage Pastry Chef?!

Question: Teenage Pastry Chef!?
I love baking and decorating cakes, making marzipan figurines, and messing with chocolate!. But there are literally no places around my home where a kid can go to learn about cooking!. Any advice about maybe things to do at home, starting lessons, or maybe something to do around town!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hello Alex,
In my area, there is not alot of places to go and learn either!. Most of what I know I have taught myself!. A great way to learn is to read cookbooks, (I always have my nose in several a night!) try new recipes and techniques and learn from others!.

There are great cooking shows on television!. Do you know any great cooks in your family!? Pick their brains and ask questions!. This forum in Yahoo answers is also a great place to learn!. I learn lots of new stuff every day!.

As you grow, maybe you will go on to become a pastry chef, open a bakery or build a cooking web-site like I did!. I love chocolate, so that is what I focus on!.

Good Luck! Keep on baking, and doing what you love!

Let's start with where you are located!. Then we can come up with some ideas!. Do you have a Whole Foods, William Sonoma or Sur la Table near you!? They offer classes!. So do local culinary schools!. Maybe your local community college has a culinary program!? If so, try some weekend classes!. If all else fails!.!.!.

What you need to learn is the technique, so read the informational sections of the books instead of just the recipes!.
