Question: In a recipe it mentions "crisco"!.!.!.!.what is it!?
Answers:
Hello Bree,
Crisco is an alternative to butter and margarine!. It is shortening which is used in baking!. There are two flavors!. There is a butter flavor which is yellow and the regular is white!. It is sold in two forms!. In a tub that you scoop out, or in bars that you can slice and use what you need!. I particularly like the bars!. They are easier to use!.

Good Luck! I hope this helps you out!

Crisco is a vegetable shortening made by partially hydrogenating vegetable oil which means that the vegetable oil is now solid at room temperature versus being liquid before being hydrogenated!. Crisco or shortening is often used to make baked goods, pastries, pie dough and biscuits!. It is flavorless in recipes so it won't have the same flavor as butter!. Butter-flavored shortening, in my opinion, is not very good and it tastes like chemicals!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is a brand of vegetable shortening, and is it considered both Kosher and suitable for vegan diets!. It is used in place of animal lard (fats) or oils!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can find it in the bakeing section of a grocerie store!. It kind of has a textur like butter, but it works like oil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
