About how full should an 8-inch round pan be filled with batter?!

Question: About how full should an 8-inch round pan be filled with batter!?
I'm new to baking and I was just wondering how much batter I should pour into the pan before I put it into the oven!.

Full!? half!? 3/4 full!?

If it matters, I'm going to be baking a chocolate cake!. :)

I bake a lot of cake!. My last two wedding cakes have been for 200 and 180 people!. Just fill the pan half full!. If you want a professional looking cake you'll want to trim the rounded dome from the top of the cake!. You'll waste less cake when you only fill it half full!. Most recipes will fill two 8 inch pans half full!. If you are using a boxed cake mix which is usually geared to (2) 9 inch rounds it'll still work out even if it's 3/4's full!. If you fill it all the way you'll have goo all over the bottom of your oven!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you are making a 2 layered cake then it is necessary to fill each pan 1/2 full so that your layers will be even!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most recipes come with a size chart (makes two 8" rounds or one 9"x11")!. If it doesn't the 3/4 full!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

1/2 to 3/4 would work fine!. more likely 1/2 as the batter swells!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

About half-3/4 of the pan!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You need to put in juuuuust the right amount!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
