Keep changing the water, Poppy!. Once or twice should do!. They will probably be defrosted already!.!.!. They will not take long!. No need for warm water either!.!.!. You can "cook" them that way too and if you are not cooking immediately, it can trigger bacteria growth, so just use ordinary tap water!.
There is the theory you have no need to defrost burgers anyhow!. You could grill or fry them straight from the freezer!. Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Depending on how much time you have before you have to cook them, water in a large pot does wonders for defrosting!. I like using cold water the best for even defrosting, but if you're in a hurry you can use warm or even hot water to make it go more quickly!. Just be careful with hot water that the center is not still frozen!. I agree with you that microwaving on defrost just seems yucky and they do seem to cook on the ends while the middle stays frozen!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Cold water works well!. Slightly running cold water a little faster!. You could cook the venison even if it is still slightly frozen; will just take a little longer to get done!. The upside of cooking while a bit frozen is that the searing of the outside will keep the juices/water from thawing inside the burgers making them more moist!.
Do not use hot or warm water! You are asking for a bacterial bomb! If the venison is in a chunk and you're going to use it in something like spaghetti sauce, chili or a casserole, thawing in the microwave is fine!. But I think it effects the flavor!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I defrost in HOT water!. The defrost can be hot enough!. Run the water and let it sit there!. Microwaving defrost can be tricky and other kinds of heating may alter the taste!. Next time before you start cooking leave it in the hot water before you star cook like while you go to the grocery store!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Microwave on defrost will not cook the meat!
However, the other way to do it would be to place them on say a splatter platter over a saucepan of boiling water or if they are completely sealed in the water, it would then need to be a gentle simmer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have a an option on my fan oven to just use the fan to blow cool area over food!. So I stick things on a rack and let it blow them defrosted!.
Other than that, bagging/wrapping them, and submerging them in cold water is my other optionWww@FoodAQ@Com

run warm water over them for a few minutes!. Not too hot or you will start cooking them! Depending on how thick they are you can probably start cooking them even if they're still partly frozen, just turn the heat down a little to start with!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
