There absolutely is a difference between bread flour and whole wheat flour!. Like someone else said, the whole wheat flour has less gluten and if you substitute, the bread will come out hard and dense!. To remedy this, you can add about a tablespoon of gluten yourself or if you don't have any, you can add a little more yeast!.!.!.!.say two teaspoons instead of one!. If you have some, you can also add about a teaspoon of lemon juice which will help condition the dough but will not affect flavor!. Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, you can replace bread flour with whole wheat flour!.
However because whole wheat flour has less gluten than bread flour and gluten is what helps the bread rise and the texture more airy, your bread might not turn out as high as the original recipe and the texture will probably be denser (less "holes" )!.
If height and a light texture are important to you, start by replacing maybe half the amount of bread flour with whole wheat flour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You certainly can! The flavour will be more "nutty" and it is much better for you! However you may find you need to add a little extra liquid!. Whole wheat (aka wholemeal) absorbs more moisture than ordinary white flour!. And you may find kneading a tad longer will help!.
If you are making a yeast bread with whole wheat there is no need for extra yeast, but if you are using baking powder and substituting wholemeal for white flour in a given recipe, you will probably need to increase the amount by up to half OR add a spoon of bicarbonate of soda to the stated amount baking powder!.
