What is the strangest concoction you ever made, and will you help me with mine?!
So far, I have been simmering stale coca-cola classic, and stale cherry coke together, with a few dashes of hot sauce, worcester sauce, a beef rib bone, butter, soy sauce, dill pickle juice, Thyme, garlic, diced onions, terriaki sauce, sage leaves, mustard, black pepper, in a pan on low heat!. I plan on using Catalina salad dressing as a thickener if the sugar doesn't thinken on it's own!.
I think I will come out with a BBQ sauce, is that right!? What do you think it will taste like!?
I measured everthing carefully by sight, by the way!. I've made BBQ sauce before, but not like this!
What think you!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

When I was a child my sweet Momma use to let me "cook" in the kitchen!. I could mix and cook anything I wanted to!. You talk about a mess!. I had stuff mixed all together that you could not even think about eating!. I guess that's where my love for cooking came from!. She would tell me as long as I cleaned it up I could do it!. So I did!. What fun I had!. That would have to be some of the strangest concoctions I have ever made!.
As far as what you have going there I think to make it a BBQ sauce you should add a little vinegar and cook it down!. Job well done, friend!

that is great, it sounds like you are on the right track!. although i don't think sugar will thicken your concoctions you might try a little cornstarch!.
i have never made a concoctions that was out there, however i have made an aloha cake, that is made with a can of pork and beans ( i found it in the seattle newspaper)!.
good luck and what ever you do, do not listen to the negative comments!. i think what you are doing is fantastic!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think I would have left out the pickle! I have a feeling it's either going to be wonderful or awful, good luck on that! As for the strangest sauce I've ever created - I can't come any where close to your aaahhh, I'll call it "creativity!."Www@FoodAQ@Com
I don't think it's gonna be a BBQ sauce! It will most likey be a very unique marinade!. You should add a like wine or something and some brown sugar!. It won't make good BBQ sauce though!.!.!.!.I think it will thicken if you keep reducing it!. Don't add Catalina maybe some catsup!.!Www@FoodAQ@Com
It sounds like it just might work!. I think I would leave out the Catalina tho, because I would think it would add too much of an acid taste (you seem to have enough of that already)!. Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
that's gonna taste like CRAPWww@FoodAQ@Com
I recently braised a chuck roast with a similar concoction!. Didn't have any stock so when I saw a recipe (Emeril Lagasse) for a coca cola braising mixture!.!.!.I kind of combined stuff from there!.
I used apple cider vinegar instead of pickle juice because it sweetens when its reduced as well as tenderizing!. I did use some soy but not much and teriyaki sauce is just sweetened soy!.!.!.Throwing in the rib is a good idea to take the place of a stock flavor (I knew this but I only have some rather expensive beef I buy directly from the rancher!.!.!.yesterday I fixed that by buying a couple packages of ox-tail to have when I need a rich stock quickly) My coke was stale, or rather non-bubbly too!.!.!.no biggie it is for the unusual flavor - it would not work for a cake recipe that required coke!.
I wouldn't put too much mustard in it unless it is for pork!.!.!.but in case you didn't know it acts as a thickener!.!.!.even the powdered kind and it is another addition of vinegar!. Same thing with the sage since it goes with birds better which as I just reread your ingredients before signing off, realized that I had added a couple Bay leaves instead!.!.!.otherwise quite similar!. I love garlic and added both fresh and powdered!. (Emeril again)
Anyhow it was so delicious!.!.!.As soon as I tried the meat after slow cooking the roast a long time!. I threw 1/2 of it back in the freezer and pulled out another small roast to utilize this delicious mixture!. (note: this just caused a big smile on my face as I thought of having some of Roast #1 and #2 in my freezer waiting for me to need them) I did add some stuff like more fresh garlic and vinegar!.!.!.oh yeah and some older raisins for the heck of it!.
The only addition that I often use in these sport-cooking experiments w/ BBQ or marinades would be orange marmalade or other fruit jams but those are usually for chicken or pork!.!.!.Good eats on ya!
edit Oh yeah nix the Catalina! and the dill flavor isn't really optimal used with soy!.!.!.( Do a little test by mixing a little soy sauce with your pickle juice and taste!.!.!.I think your nose will wrinkle!.!.!.) Its mainly good only for the vinegar anyway!.!.!.
Whenever coming up with new concoctions it is important to do these little taste tests!.!.!.because the final result will be jarring if the strong flavors clash!. Just a hint!.
I did not see any oil in there but the butter works!.!.!.I always add some oil also!. Butter's main use is to keep it thicker when you are pasting it on!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
