Cake decorating help?!

Question: Cake decorating help!?
I'm getting ready to make a birthday cake in the next couple days, I'm good at decorating with regular icing but this time, I'll be working with rolled fondant! I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to paint fondant! I googled it and I found several ways to do it but I'm not sure which one to go with!. Can someone who's done it (with good results) please tell me how!?!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I noticed that the other answers seemed to think you just wanted to color the fondant!. If that's what you're trying to do, knead in a small amount of paste food coloring at a time until you get the color you want!. Remember that the color may deepen a bit over time!. If you need to get a very precise shade, color it the day before you need it to let it develop before you use it!. also, it's hard to color fondant red or black because you have to handle it so much that it starts to want to dry out!. The best way to deal with that is to add a small amount of glycerin to it!.

If you're wanting to paint on fondant, you need paste colors, vodka, and a paint brush that hasn't been used for real paints!. If for some reason you're opposed to using vodka, you can use lemon extract!.!.!.but vodka is cheaper and leaves no taste behind when it evaporates!. Thin the paste color with vodka and paint it onto the fondant!. If you need an opaque shade, you can mix the paste color with white color!.!.!.if you use the wilton brand, don't add any vodka to a mix that has the white color in it, because it seperates out in a very ugly way!.

Remember, if you get your fondant too wet, it will melt!. Let it dry between coats of paint!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You will get a better result by kneading, soften (or "plasticise") the fondant by hand on a chopping board or bench, make an indentation & drop a little of the food colouring into the hole - don`t dilute the colouring just add very little at a time kneading between each operation - remember you can always put more colour in you CAN`T take it out so slowly, slowly!!! It might help to put a little icing sugar on your board to aid lubrication!. So your not painting the fondant with a brush your color it with food color!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

best bet is to make your own fondant, not store bought!.!.!.and die it while you make it!. store bought tastes HORRIBLE!. Look up a recipe on almond paste or australian dough!.!.!.use icing colorings from a cake store when making it to change the colors!. if you really want to use store bought tho you can paint it with the icing colors, a dab of water and a paint brush!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
