Does unprepared Jello spoil?!

Question: Does unprepared Jello spoil!?
I thought I'd make some jell-o today for a cool summer treat!. I have a number of boxes of it in my pantry!. I pick it up when it's on sale!.

I went to make one this afternoon and noticed that it had a "Best if used by" date on it of November 2006!. (I guess I ought to get better at cleaning out the pantry!.)

I picked a different box to make for today, but!.!.!. does Jello powder "spoil!." The older box was sealed and seems to look and smell just fine!. I guess I considered it non-perishable, but perhaps it's not!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

How can sugar spoil!. I don't know why they put a use by date on an item like that, just so you go buy a new one I guess!. I have used some with a date later than that!. If it's still sealed like you bought it it's fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

most likely jello will still be good in the next millenium!

If it appears clumpy when you open the packet then moisture has gotten to it and it may then develop mold spores!.!.!.throw that one away!. Otherwise it should be fine for years to come!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It doesn't "spoil" per se, but the gelatine can get all clumpy and the flavors can start to "fade!." Chances are though if you kept it in pantry in a nice dry cool place that it will be just fine!.

It is non perishable but the gelatin starts to break down over time!. It will still be ok to eat, it just may not be a firm as you expect it to be!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Jell-o cant really spoil because its made with gelatin(animal bones/fat or seaweed), artificial flavors, and sugar!. It should be fine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try it and see!. It should be fine!. Nothing can really spoil, but like someone else said, it may not harden quite right!. I would try it!. That's just me though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

eventually it does!.

I never take a chance!. But you might want to make one and see how it smells!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
