you know i wonder the same thing!.!.im a diabetic and need sugar free foods, it seems the more they take out the more expensive things become!. fruits and veggies are outrageous, i try to go to our local farmers market and sometimes i find good deals there!.!.!.everything is crazy but its so hard to believe the working person can no longer afford food or gas!.!.its not like either is a luxury!.!.both are necessitiesWww@FoodAQ@Com

Buying bulk and from local sources do help take the sting out of eating fruits and vegetables!.

Another good way is to look at your frozen food section of your grocery store!. Frozen fruits and vegetables typically are frozen with little processing, at the peak of ripeness, and much sooner after havesting, making the frozen food healthier by retaining more of the vitamins from the field to your table!.

also, the frozen foods tend to be much cheaper, often 1/4 of the cost for fresh because of the lower handling, storage, and shipping costs!.

One of the things that tend to make fresh more expensive is the price includes the cost of that which spoils before all of it is purchased!.

So when purchasing your fruits and vegetables don't forget that frozen can be lower in costs and healthier for you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Fruits and veggies have always been more expensive than junk food, even before the gas crisis!. It takes a lot to grow them, pick them, package them so they don't bruise, transport them in a cooled environment, store them appropriately!. The they don't last very long and some will be discarded!.

I agree with the suggestion to get frozen veggies!. Often the nutrition is higher than fresh because it is frozen very soon after picking!. Unless you're at a farm stand, fresh produce has been picked several days or weeks before you buy it!.

If you have Costco near you, you can get great fresh fruits and veggies there!. You have to buy a lot, but you can cook and freeze what you can't eat in time!. Even if you end up discarding half of it, it often comes out cheaper than paying retail!.

Sam's club is also a good source for discount produce, but I think Costco has better quality food (meats and poultry too!)Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's more expensive because fat & crap are cheap! You can purchase a package of mac & cheese FAR cheaper than a similar quantity of fruits because the ingredients can be made and packaged WELL ahead of time, and take some of your own resources as well!.

Fruits and veggies are highly perishable and so require INTENSE care and handling, and what you see is what you get!. A company (Kraft for example) can crank out MILLIONS of boxes of mac & cheese, but an apple tree is only going to make SO many apples!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

grow your own fruits and veggies!. hire someone to garden for you!. call some of your local produce farms and ask them if you could buy in bulk from them (for freezing)!. also visit www!.groceryoutlet!.com for purchasing fresh fruits and veggies for a much much lower price than normal supermarkets!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would try and got to a local farmers market for the fruits and veggies, cause they are cheaper and you can buy in bulk!. If there isn't one, compare the local sale papers and look for the best price!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I know what you mean, you can go into McDonald's and get a 3 course meal for $!.99 each, but to get a good salad will cost you well over $5!.00!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.its sad, but keep up the good work, your baby will love you in the end!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The increase in the price of gasoline and oil is partially to blame in the increase cost of delivering the produce to the store which in turn raises the price of produce!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Congrats on the baby!

Buy off-brand frozen veggies!. Peas, corn, gr beans, spinach, etc!. can be very cheap!. Potatoes and brown rice are economical, too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

because the gov!. nows the people will eat the crap 2 get skinny!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
