Help! Have to make a cake, am out of oil, can I use shortening instead?!
I have to make a cake today and I am out of vegetable oil, don't have time to go to the store!. I do have butter flavored Crisco, however!. The mix asks for 1/3 cup oil!. Can I use the Crisco, instead!? Do I change the amount!? It will be a bundt cake, if that makes a difference!. I'm not the greatest cook in the world, so don't laugh too hard at me, please!.!.!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Believe it or not, use 1/2 cup of mayonnaise!. It's basically oil and an extra egg!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You should be able to use the Crisco!. I'd melt some (try about 5 tablespoons), measure out your 1/3 cup as if it were oil, then mix it and bake it right away!. Once it's blended and baked with the other ingredients, it should be fine!. You might have a slightly different flavour (and maybe a slightly different texture) from what you'd normally get, but it should be OK!. It'll just maybe a bit more buttery than it would have been otherwise!.!.!.vegetable oil has no flavour on it's own, and the mix will have all the flavourings in it!.
Crisco is simply a blend of vegetables oils that have been hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated (processed to be solid at room temperature)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well the mixes I usually use ask for 1/2 cup of Oil, and 1and 1/3 cups of water!. and 3 eggs
what I do is cut the water back by 1/3 cup and use 1/3 cup of unsweetened applesauce!.!.it's yummy and adds less fat and calories!.!.!.I wouldn't use crisco, keep eggs same
if you do this take 2 minutes off the bake time, important it will burn fasterWww@FoodAQ@Com

You really need to substitute a liquid fat with another liquid fat, and a solid fat with another solid fat!. Otherwise the taste and texture will be affected!. Do you have olive oil!? You could use that!. Or applesauce like the first poster suggested!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
you can use margerine!. it is a great substitute!.
oil is used for moistness so butter will do fine
i think crisco will work though
