Applesauce can be used in addition to the brown sugar and splenda!.
also, pureed fruits, such as peaches can be used, the ones packed in juice, not syrup!. It would be used like applesauce substitute is used!.
I usually partially substitute the oil and the sugar in baked goods!.
use 1/2 brown sugar, 1/2 splenda to substitute for sugar!.
If you would like, substitute 1/4 to 1/2 of the oil or shortening with applesauce!.
Could use honey in substitution of sugar, but decrease the oil because of the extra moisture!. So if the recipe called for a 1 cup of sugar, use 1 cup honey, but decrease the oil by a 1/3 of the amount!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Stevia is also a natural substitute for sugar!.!.!. You should do some research on Stevia since some find it contraversial!.!.!. It comes from an herb so it's a natural substitute to sugar!.!.!.
Then you have "Sucanat"!.!.!. which is the name of a granulated cane juice (sugar that has not been overly processed or refined)!.!.!.!. A lot of the pastries from Wholefoods uses cane juice in their products!.
And yeah!.!.!. you can use honey but it might alter the taste, kind of strong!.!.!. (might taste more like a honey cake)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Molasses while it is used for flavor and color it is not really sweet but bitter!. Brown sugar would work fine as it has a good ratio of sugar and molasses, so it balances out the flavor!. (yes-honey would work as well)
You could also try using a substitute such as apple sauce!
hope this helps!
P!.S We would need to know the amount of sugar the recipe calls for to help on the ratioWww@FoodAQ@Com
