Since catfish don't have scales, don't listen to that guy! The girl with the cutting board idea sound good, but I have heard of the same type of thing by nailing it to a tree - they say you can just rip it off!. I don't know about that!.
Here's how I do it:
Gut the fish
Make a cut at the very edge of the bony area under the spines and fillet the meat away,After that I simply use a good fillet knife and very carefully hold the edge of the skin with my nails or a clipboard and slowly work the knife between the meat and skin!. Once you get a firmer grip on the skin you can move faster as long as you keep your knife almost flat (about 45* angle) and slide it forward (away from you)!. You may have to reposition from time to time to be sure you aren't losing meat or leaving skin on the meat!. It really just takes practice!. I mutilated the first 2 I ever did, but practice does make perfect!. If you totally screw it up this time, you will do better next time!. No sweat!. Have fun and eat good! That's all that matters in the end!. If you have anyone else around who has never done it before, tell them to do one while you do another!. One way to skin a catfish is to slice the belly, de-gut it and place it belly-down on a wooden cutting board!. Stick an ice-pick through the top of its head into the cutting board (essentially nailing its head to the board)!.
Make a cut with a very sharp knife, below the ice-pick, over the spine, just below the head of the fish!. This cut must go just through the skin, not into the flesh!.
With the aid of the knife, separate the skin from the flesh on the body side of the cut and pull the skin toward the tail!. If done properly, the skin should peel off cleanly from the flesh and separate the tail from the flesh also!.

After you gut it, slice through the skin around the head and peel it off with some pliers!. It is possible to snap the neck back and pull it down towards the tail pulling the skin off as you go but this takes a bit of practiceWww@FoodAQ@Com
first make slits around the head and fins!.!.!.I hang it just a little above my head with a stringer,,,then with needle nose pliers I grab a piece of skin and peel it downward!.!.!.
